About Nicolai

Nicolai Užnik's journey in climbing showcases a remarkable progression from a small village in Carinthia to competing at the highest levels internationally. His dedication and talent have led him to numerous achievements, setting him on a path towards the 2024 Olympic Games. 

Early Beginnings and Passion for Climbing: Nicolai, born on the 11th of August 2000 in Villach, began climbing at the age of six in his small village in Carinthia, Austria. His hobby soon transformed into a passion, driving him to pursue climbing at a competitive level.

Rise in Youth Competitions: He quickly made a name for himself in youth climbing competitions, becoming Austrian Youth Champion multiple times and achieving podium placements in International Youth Competitions. This early success laid the foundation for his future career in climbing.

World Cup Debut and Youth Olympic Games: At the age of 16, Nicolai made his World Cup debut, marking his entry into the elite climbing circuit. Just two years later, he reached the semi-finals of a Bouldering World Cup, finishing 13th. Additionally, he had the honor of competing in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games for Climbing, demonstrating his prowess on the international stage from a young age.

Transition to National Team Training: Following his school years, Nicolai made the decision to further his climbing career by moving to Innsbruck to train with the Austrian National Team.

International Successes: Nicolai's dedication and hard work paid off with notable achievements in international competitions. He has reached three World Cup Finals, has made it to the finals of a World Championship and clinched the title of European Champion, cementing his status as one of the top climbers in Europe.

2024 Olympic Games Qualification: With his focus now on the Combined discipline and the objective of qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games, Nicolai Užnik is poised to continue his ascent in the climbing world. His journey from a young enthusiast in a small village to a contender for Olympic qualification is a testament to his talent, perseverance, and passion for the sport.
